Last week we left you contemplating the effects that colostrum could have on the immune system.  We gave you a brief description of what we mean by the immune system and defined what colostrum was and that it was a life giving fluid to enhance the immune system of the newborn.  This week we want to give a little more detail to the effects that colostrum has on the immune system and its relationship to degenerative diseases.

Immunoglobulins (found in colostrum) are able to neutralize invading organisms.    Dr. Dwyer of the New England Journal of Medicine made this statement, "Immunoglobulins in colostrum has been used to successfully treat: Anemia, Thrombocytopenia, Neutropenia, Myasthenia Gravis, Guillian Barre Syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis, Systemic Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Bulluos Pamphigoid, Kawasaki's Syndrome, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Crohn's disease among others."  unquote!  PRP, in bovine colostrum, has the same ability to regulate activity of the immune system as hormones of the Thymus gland.  It activates an underactive immune system, helping it moved into action against disease-causing organisms.  PRP also suppresses an overactive immune system, such as is often seen in the autoimmune diseases.  PRP is highly anti-inflammatory and also appears to act on T-cell precursors to produce helper T-cells and suppresser T-cells.  Bovine colostrum also contains TgF-B which has an important suppressive effect on cytoxic substances (anti-inflamatory).  Colostrum contains Retinoic Acid which helps fight Herpes Virus. Growth factors in bovine colostrum were found to be very effective in in promoting wound healing, normal cell growth and DNA synthesis.  It also contains Glycoprotein (kappa casein) that protects against the bacteria that causes stomach ulcers. 

The most abundant immunoglobulin found in colostrum is identified as IgG and is carried in the lymph and circulatory systems where it is effective in neutralizing toxins and other invaders.   Lactoferrin is one of the most powerful antiviral, antibacterial substances, found naturally, only in bovine colostrum.  Lactoferrin contains antibodies which act against a wide range of bacterial, fungal, viral, and protozoal pathogens.  Lactoferrin, also is a super antioxidant that inhibits free radicals.
